High School Equivalency Requirements:
- You have not completed high school.
- You are a California resident or member of the armed services assigned to duty in the state of California.
- You have passed all portions of a High School Equivalency (HSE) Test that has been approved by the State Board of Education taken at a testing center that has been approved by California Department of Education
Test takers must also meet ONE of the following requirements:
- You are 18 years of age or within 60 days of your 18th birthday
- You are within 60 days of when you would have graduated from high school had you remained and completed the usual courses required for graduation
- You are 17 years of age, have been out of school for at least 60 consecutive days and provide a letter of request from the military, a post-secondary educational institution, or employer that states the need for you to take a HSE Test.

Passing score required for each test is 145 points or higher.
The cost per test is $35. Total for all four tests is $140.
To take the GED Test you must have one of the following:
- A VALID California Driver's License or;
- A VALID California Identification Card or;
- A Government issued ID Card

Passing score required for each test is 45 points or higher.
The cost per test is $25. Total for all five tests is $125.
Test Fee is non-refundable and testing must be completed within 12 months of registration.
To take the HiSET Test you must have one of the following:
- A VALID California Driver's License or;
- A VALID California Identification Card or;
- A Government issued ID Card

What is a High School Equivalency Certificate?
A high school equivalency is a recognized alternative to a high school diploma.
We offer two test preparation classes:
GED
HiSET
What scores are required to pass the High School Equivalency test?
GED- To pass the GED Test in California, you need a passing score of at least 145 on each of the four GED subject tests.
Reasoning Through Language Arts
Mathematical Reasoning
Science
Social Studies
HiSET- Each of the five subtests are scored on a scale of 1-20.
In order to pass you must do all three of the following:
Achieve a score of at least 8 on each of the five individual subtests
Score at least 2 of the 6 on the essay portion of the writing test
Have a total combined score on all five tests of at least 45
How will I know if I passed or failed the test?
For GED computer testing, you will receive your scores via email after completing the test.
For HiSET computer testing you will be notified immediately after testing. HiSET paper testing scores will be available within five to ten business days of when the tests arrive in the testing center.
How long does it take to prepare for the GED/HiSET tests?
Length of completion varies depending on each student and the time they spend preparing for the exams.
