Adult Basic Education (ABE) Classes

Adult Basic Education (ABE)


The Adult Basic Education (ABE) pathway consists of non-credit classes designed to increase basic reading, writing, math, and 21st Century Skills (critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity). The ABE pathway is best suited for students who need to increase their basic education skills for:

- real-world application (social and civic engagement & employment)

- transition to the high school diploma pathway

- provide targeted academic support for GED® or HiSET testing

 

Students enrolled in ABE courses may also enroll in one or more of the following content areas: ESL, Citizenship, GED/HiSET, or High School Diploma. CASAS assessment data, student transcripts, and personal goals are used to guide class placement. 


ABE - English Language Arts (reading and writing)
The skills and concepts that will be taught during the English Language Arts course include the following:

- Phonics and Vocabulary

- Grammar

- Reading Comprehension

- Opinion/Argumentative Writing

- Test Taking Strategies

- Digital Literacy

 

 

ABE - Math
The skills and concepts that will be taught during the Math course include the following: 

- Operations and Procedures

- Order of Operations

- Algebraic Equations

- Graphing

- Test Taking Strategies

- Digital Literacy
